Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort Review

Arriving at Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort

Tucked away in the picturesque town of Grossarl, Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. The hotel is located at the foot of the famous Grossarl Valley, surrounded by beautiful mountains that are perfect for hiking, skiing, and other outdoor activities.

The closest airport is Salzburg Airport, which is about an hour drive from the hotel. Alternatively, Munich Airport is a 2.5-hour drive away.

Both airports offer rental car services and we highly recommend renting a car to fully explore the stunning Austrian countryside. Check out our Austria road trip itinerary for more info!

If you’re not planning to rent a car, the hotel also offers airport transfer services for an additional fee.

Das Edelweiss has a huge underground parking lot and parking is free for all guests, so you don’t need to worry about finding a spot for your car. They also have six charging stations available for electric cars.

Once we parked our car and made it up to the lobby, we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff and a delicious welcome drink. The lobby area is cozy and inviting, with an electric fire and comfortable seating areas to relax after the drive.

The check-in process was smooth and efficient, and we also received a tour of the property to familiarize ourselves with the amenities and facilities.

Rooms & Suites

Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort first opened its doors in 1979 with only 14 rooms and has been constantly evolving and expanding ever since.

The hotel now offers a total of 130 rooms and suites in three different buildings – the main building, the south wing, and the panorama wing. All buildings are interconnected, making it easy to access all areas of the hotel.

Whether you arrive as a couple, family, or group of friends, Das Edelweiss has the perfect accommodation for you. From cozy double rooms to spacious suites with separate bedrooms and living areas, there is something for every guest.

Suite Deluxe

We stayed in a Suite Deluxe on the 6th floor in the panorama wing and were blown away by the spaciousness and stunning views.

The suite has two separate bedrooms with king-sized beds and an extra pull-out couch so it can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people. The bedrooms are separated by a sliding door, making it ideal for families or groups traveling together.

Besides the two bedrooms, the suite also has two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bathtub. Both are equipped with luxurious amenities and soft bathrobes.

The huge wardrobe offers plenty of storage space and it’s also where you can find a safe, an ironing board, and an extra pillow and blanket.

The absolute highlight of the suite is the balcony with panoramic views of the Grossarl Valley. We loved starting our day with a cup of coffee on the balcony, surrounded by the fresh mountain air and stunning scenery.

We also couldn’t resist ordering room service breakfast to enjoy on the balcony – it was definitely a highlight of our stay!

Mountain Spa

One of the main highlights of Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort is its enormous spa and wellness area. Spanning over 5 floors, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of exploring the mountains.

We were seriously blown away by the size and variety of amenities offered in the spa area. From indoor and outdoor pools to various saunas, steam baths, and relaxation areas, there is something for everyone.

So if you’re looking for a little extra pampering on your vacation, Das Edelweiss has got you covered!

Waterworld

If you love swimming, you will be in heaven at Das Edelweiss. The hotel offers three swimming pools – an indoor pool on the 1st floor, an indoor-outdoor sports pool on the 4th floor, and a heated indoor-outdoor infinity pool on the 6th floor.

We especially loved the infinity pool with its stunning views of the Grossarl Valley. It was the perfect spot to relax and unwind while watching the skiers make their way down the mountain.

The sports pool is also great for some exercise and swimming laps, while the indoor pool is perfect for families with small children.

Talking about children, there’s also a baby pool for the little ones to splash around in.

What’s more, the hotel has a huge indoor waterslide world spanning over 3 floors that is guaranteed to be a hit with kids of all ages. Even we couldn’t resist going down the slides a few times!

There’s also sauna hut outside with a cold pool for a refreshing dip after the sauna, as well as another heated plunge pool and an outdoor relaxation area with stunning views of the mountains.

It’s one of the best hotel gyms we’ve ever seen and offers a beautiful view of the mountains to keep you motivated during your workout.

Children’s Area

Although we don’t have any kids yet, but if we did, we would definitely bring them here! The children’s are at Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort is simply amazing and we were totally blown away by the variety of activities and amenities offered.

They have separate rooms for different age groups:

  • Baby Mountain Area (0-3 years): A cute playroom for the little ones with soft toys, slides, and swings. They even have a sleeping area with cribs and a canopy tent!
  • EDELWEISS Prince & Princess Land (3-6 years): This was probably our favorite room in the children’s area. It’s filled with toys and games such as a ball bath, interactive game carpet, and arts and crafts station. They also have a small cinema room and a play kitchen for the kids to cook up some fun.
  • Young Mountain Area (6-12 years): This room is perfect for active kids who love climbing and playing. They have a bouldering wall, slides, different climbing elements and hanging bridges, and even an oversized ball bay.
  • Cool Mountain Area (13-16 years): This area is designed for teenagers with table tennis, billiards, air hockey, and video games to keep them entertained. There’s also a chill-out area where they can relax and hang out with their friends.

If you forgot to pack something or just want a souvenir to take home, this is the perfect place to shop. And even if you don’t end up buying anything, it’s still worth browsing through their cute and unique items.

Ski Rental and Storage

One of the most convenient facilities at Das Edelweiss is its ski rental and storage. The hotel has its own ski rental shop where you can rent all your skiing equipment, from skis and boots to helmets and poles.

The ski lift is literally right next to the hotel, so you can easily ski in and out. And after a day on the slopes, you can store your equipment in the hotel’s ski storage room with heated lockers to keep everything dry and warm.

It’s little details like this that make Das Edelweiss Salzburg Resort stand out as a top mountain resort!

Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially when you’re going to be spending your day skiing or doing other outdoor activities. That’s why Das Edelweiss offers a hearty breakfast buffet with a variety of options to choose from.

The size of the breakfast buffet is impressive and everything we tried was delicious. From freshly baked bread and pastries to eggs, bacon, and a selection of cereals, there’s something for every taste.

They even have a juice bar where you can create your own fresh juices and smoothies.

As I mentioned before, you also have the option to order room service breakfast, which is a nice touch for those who prefer to have a leisurely morning in bed.

Dinner

After a long day of activities, coming back to the hotel and enjoying a delicious dinner is just what we needed.

Every night, there’s a new 4-course menu with three different set menus to choose from (regional, boundless, and vegan). You can also mix and match dishes from different menus to create your own personalized dinner.

The food was always beautifully presented and tasted amazing. We especially enjoyed trying the regional specialties, such as the classic Wiener Schnitzel. And of course, the desserts were a highlight every night!
