Dreaming of watching the northern lights from your bed? Lapland is one of the best places in the world to do it, and the experience is even more magical when you stay in a glass igloo. With heated glass roofs, cozy beds, and snowy landscapes all around, it’s a bucket list stay you won’t forget.

I’ve been lucky enough to try several of the best glass igloo hotels in Lapland, from luxury igloos with hot tubs to off-the-grid cabins tucked deep in the forest.

In this guide, I’ll share my favorite places along with a few other great resorts worth adding to your list, so you can plan the Lapland trip of your dreams.

Levin Iglut is one of the most famous glass igloo hotels in Lapland, and for good reason! Perched on the side of Utsuvaara fell just outside the ski resort town of Levi, the views here are absolutely incredible.

From your bed, you’ll get a front-row seat to endless snowy landscapes and, if you’re lucky, the northern lights dancing across the sky.

The igloos themselves come in a few different styles, from cozy Superior Igloos with heated glass roofs and motorized beds, to the more spacious Prime Superior Igloos with kitchenettes.

If you want to splurge, the Suite Igloos are on another level! They come with a private terrace and outdoor hot tub, plus extras like a minibar and welcome champagne.

One of the best things about staying here is that the hotel has its own free northern lights alert system. During our stay, we managed to catch the aurora on both nights thanks to the alerts, and watching them from the comfort of our igloo was absolutely unforgettable!

What I loved most about Levin Iglut is the mix of comfort and privacy. Even though it’s close to Levi, the igloos feel tucked away in their own little world. You can head into town easily for skiing, restaurants, and winter activities, then retreat back to your igloo for a quiet night under the stars.

2. Apukka Resort

Located just a short drive from Rovaniemi and Santa Claus Village, Apukka Resort is one of the most fun and versatile glass igloo hotels in Finland.

What makes it stand out is the variety of unique accommodations to choose from, ranging from compact Aurora Cabins with glass roofs to spacious Kammi Glass Igloo Suites and even movable Aurora Wagons that can be placed out in the wilderness.

We stayed in one of the Kammi Suites, and it was such a memorable experience. The suite felt spacious and comfortable, with a glass roof stretching right above the bed so we could lie back and watch the sky.

Having that extra room made it feel more like a little apartment than just a cabin, which was really nice after long days outside in the snow!

Beyond the igloos, Apukka offers a full range of activities right on site. You can head out on a husky safari, ride a snowmobile across frozen lakes, or relax in a traditional Finnish sauna.

In the evenings, the resort’s restaurant serves hearty Lappish dishes, and there’s even a lakeside sauna and hot tub area if you want to warm up after a day in the snow.

What I really liked about Apukka is that it strikes a nice balance between accessibility and wilderness. It’s close enough to Rovaniemi that you can easily visit Santa Claus Village or the city’s museums, but once you’re back at the resort, it feels remote and peaceful.

It’s the perfect spot if you want a mix of adventure, northern lights, and comfort all in one place.

3. Santa’s Igloos Arctic Circle

If you want to combine a glass igloo stay with the magic of Christmas, Santa’s Igloos Arctic Circle is the perfect place. Located right in Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, these igloos are modern, stylish, and put you right in the heart of all the festive fun.

The igloos are designed with a mix of Scandinavian simplicity and cozy touches. Each one has a glass roof above the bed so you can watch the stars or wait for the northern lights.

They also come with private bathrooms, comfortable beds, and little extras like a welcome gift and even heated glass to keep the windows clear of frost. Some igloos have their own saunas, which is a really nice bonus in the middle of winter!

We stayed here during a visit to Santa Claus Village, and it felt so special to end a busy day of exploring in such a unique place. One moment you’re meeting Santa and wandering through souvenir shops, and the next you’re tucked into bed watching the snow fall outside your glass roof!

Because the igloos are in the middle of Santa Claus Village, there is some light pollution, so the northern lights aren’t as easy to spot as in more remote locations.

That said, the convenience and festive atmosphere make up for it, especially if you’re visiting Lapland in December.

4. Arctic Snow Hotel & Glass Igloos

Just outside Rovaniemi, the Arctic Snow Hotel & Glass Igloos is one of the most unique places to stay in Lapland!

Here you can choose between a warm glass igloo with a heated roof or spend the night inside the hotel’s snow and ice rooms, complete with ice beds, an ice bar, and even an ice restaurant. It really feels like stepping into a winter fairytale.

We spent one night in a glass igloo and one night in the snow hotel, and it was such a cool experience to try both.

The igloos are cozy with heated glass and underfloor heating, while the ice rooms are surprisingly comfortable once you’re wrapped up in your sleeping bag. Waking up to see the snow sculptures and ice chapel just steps away from our room made it even more special.

Even if you don’t stay overnight, you can book a tour of the snow hotel, which I’d say is one of the best things to do in Lapland.

Walking through the ice bar, ice restaurant, and all the themed rooms is a fun experience, and you can even combine the tour with dinner in the ice restaurant. We did this during our stay, and dining at a table made entirely of ice was something I’ll never forget!

5. Magical Pond

Tucked away in the forest near Ruka, Magical Pond is one of the most stylish glass cabin hotels in Lapland. The design here is modern and Scandinavian, with clean lines, wood accents, and huge windows that let you feel completely surrounded by nature.

The cabins are smaller than some of the other igloo hotels in Finland, but that’s part of their charm. They feel cozy and intimate, with just enough space for a comfortable bed, a small sitting area, and a bathroom.

From the moment we walked in, it felt like stepping into a private little hideaway in the woods.

We loved waking up here and looking out at the snowy trees, especially in the early morning when everything was completely silent. At night, you can keep an eye out for the northern lights through the glass roof, and there’s even a sauna on site if you want to warm up after a day outdoors.

The location is also fantastic if you’re planning to spend time in Ruka. You’re close to skiing and winter sports, but once you return to Magical Pond, it feels like you’re a world away. It’s quiet, peaceful, and designed for relaxation.

If you’re looking for a more intimate take on glass cabins in Lapland, this is such a lovely option. It might not have the extras of some of the larger resorts, but the setting and atmosphere make it a really special place to stay.

6. Invisible Forest Lodge

Invisible Forest Lodge is one of the most unique glass cabin concepts in Lapland. Tucked deep in the forest near Rovaniemi, the cabins are designed with mirrored glass walls that blend into the snowy trees, making them almost disappear.

On the inside though, they feel warm and inviting, with huge windows looking straight out at the forest.

We spent one night in a glass cabin and one night in one of their Aurora Huts, which sit right on the frozen river. Both came with private hot tubs, which felt incredible after a day outside in the cold!

Soaking in steaming water while watching the snowy landscape around us was definitely a highlight of our stay.

The cabins have a minimalist but stylish Scandinavian design, with natural wood, soft lighting, and everything you need for a comfortable night. The Aurora Huts are more compact but just as cozy, and waking up on the river with the sunrise coming through the glass was unforgettable.

At night, you can lie in bed looking for the northern lights, and the remote location means there’s very little light pollution. Even if the aurora doesn’t appear, the stargazing here is amazing.

Invisible Forest Lodge is a perfect choice if you’re looking for something a little different from the classic igloo hotels in Finland. Between the glass cabins, Aurora Huts, and private hot tubs, it’s a stay that feels both luxurious and close to nature.

7. Wilderness Hotel Nellim

Wilderness Hotel Nellim is one of the best Lapland resorts if you’re looking for a remote, off-the-grid experience. Located on the edge of Lake Inari in northern Lapland, it feels much wilder than staying around Rovaniemi, with darker skies and a better chance of seeing the northern lights.

The Wilderness brand has several hotels across Lapland, and they’ve really become a staple for travelers looking for comfort paired with adventure.

Nellim offers a wide variety of accommodations, from Wilderness Rooms and Aurora Cabins to log cabins and apartments, making it an especially good choice for bigger families or groups.

We stayed in one of their brand-new Arctic Sky Cabins, and it was such a memorable experience. These cabins are spacious and modern, with huge glass walls and ceilings so you can watch the sky from almost every angle.

At night, lying in bed with the stars above us was magical, and being this far north means your chances of catching the aurora are really high. During the day, there are plenty of activities to choose from, including husky sledding, snowmobiling, and reindeer safaris.

8. Syöte Igloos

Syöte Igloos is a single stand-alone glass igloo perched on the top of Iso-Syöte, the southernmost fell in Lapland. What makes it special is the incredible panoramic view.

From your bed you can look out over endless snowy forests, and because of its elevated location, the sunrise, sunset, and even the northern lights feel extra dramatic.

Unlike many other glass igloo hotels in Lapland, this one is completely self-catering. The igloo has a kitchenette and everything you need to prepare your own meals, but there is no on-site restaurant or dining facilities. Breakfast is included and is served at the nearby hotel, just a short walk away.

We found the igloo itself modern and comfortable, with heated glass and cozy interiors that made it easy to settle in. Because it is a single unit, it feels private and peaceful, almost like having your own little hideaway above the forest.

If you are looking for an independent stay where you can enjoy the northern lights and snowy views in total privacy, Syöte Igloos is a great option.

Just keep in mind that you will need to bring your own food or plan to eat elsewhere for other meals, since it does not have the extras like restaurants or hot tubs that some of the larger Lapland resorts offer.

Tips for Staying in a Glass Igloo in Lapland

The best time to visit Lapland for northern lights is from late August to early April, with the snowiest and most popular months being December through March. Winter brings that full-on fairytale vibe, but fall can be just as magical with clear skies and fewer crowds.

These hotels book up quickly, especially around Christmas and during the February school holidays, so I recommend reserving your stay as early as possible! Some of the smaller resorts only have a handful of igloos, and they can sell out months in advance.

Even though the igloos are heated and cozy, you will still want to pack plenty of warm layers for outdoor activities. Thermal base layers, a good down jacket, and winter boots are a must! Most resorts offer a northern lights alert system, which takes the pressure off constantly checking the sky yourself.

No matter which place you choose, spending a night in one of these glass igloo hotels in Lapland is truly a bucket list experience. There is nothing quite like lying in bed, looking up at the stars, and hoping to see the northern lights dance across the sky.
