Milos is one of my all-time favorite islands in Greece. It offers a unique combination of breathtaking landscapes, crystal clear waters, and traditional Greek charm. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or planning a road trip around the island, Milos will not disappoint!

In this guide, I will share the best areas to stay in Milos, including pros and cons and hotel recommendations for each area, so you can find the perfect accommodation for your dream vacation.

Overview of Where to Stay in Milos

At first, Milos can look like a big island with many options for accommodation, but it’s actually quite small and easy to navigate.

The western part of the island is still quite undeveloped and it can only be accessed with a 4×4 due to the rugged terrain. There are also no hotels in this area, so the best way to visit is by taking a boat tour.

All the best places to visit in Milos are located on the eastern side of the island so this is where you’ll find all the best beaches, towns, and hotels. The three main towns are Adamantas, Pollonia, and Plaka, and you can also take a look at Paleochori or Klima for a quieter stay.

Where to Stay in Milos: Best Areas & Hotels

1. Adamantas

Adamantas is the port town of Milos and it’s where most ferries from Athens and other Cycladic islands arrive. It’s a bustling hub with shopping streets, restaurants, bars, and cafes overlooking the sea.

If you don’t want to lug your suitcases around, Adamantas is one of the best areas to stay in Milos as you’ll be able to walk from the port to your hotel without any hassle.

It’s also the perfect base for exploring Milos, with easy access to all parts of the island. It’s the transport hub of Milos, where all the buses depart so you can easily reach the beaches, and villages like Plaka or Pollonia, and visit popular sites like Sarakiniko.

However, if you don’t want to rely on public transport, then you’ll also find lots of car and ATV rentals in Adamantas. The area is also full of restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops so you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips.

Accommodation options in Adamantas range from budget-friendly apartments to luxury hotels. Some hotels offer stunning views of the harbor or have direct access to the beach.

2. Pollonia

Pollonia is a picturesque fishing village located on the northeastern coast of Milos. It’s one of the most popular areas on the island due to its beautiful sandy beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and quaint tavernas.

If you’re thinking about where to stay in Milos for a beach holiday, then Pollonia is the perfect choice. The village has its own beach and it’s also close to other stunning beaches like Pachena Beach or Papafragas Caves.

Pollonia offers easy access to Milos’ famous island-hopping destinations like Kimolos or Poliegos. You can take a boat tour from the village’s small harbor and enjoy a day trip to explore these neighboring islands.

The village has some amazing traditional tavernas serving fresh seafood and local specialties, as well as some cozy bars for evening drinks. However, it’s not as lively as Adamantas, making Pollonia a great option for families or those seeking a more relaxed stay.

3. Plaka

Plaka is the capital of Milos and it’s perched on a hilltop overlooking the sea, offering breathtaking views of the island. The town has a charming traditional atmosphere with narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and bougainvillea-covered balconies.

Plaka is perfect for those looking for an authentic Greek experience. You can wander around its winding streets and find hidden gems like local restaurants, art galleries, and boutique shops.

The town also has some important historical sites like the ancient theater and the Catacombs of Milos, making it a great place for culture lovers. Make sure to climb up to the Venetian Castle for sunset, it’s a must for every Milos itinerary!

It’s important to note that there aren’t many accommodation options in Plaka, and most of them are apartments or entire homes for rent. So you’ll have to book way in advance if you want to stay here, and accommodations are also slightly more expensive.

4. Paleochori

If you’re looking for a secluded and tranquil stay in Milos, then Paleochori is the perfect spot. This small coastal village is located on the southern side of the island and it’s famous for its beautiful beach.

Paleochori offers a peaceful stay away from the crowds, with only a few hotels and restaurants scattered along the coastline. It’s home to some of the most amazing luxury hotels in Milos, offering spectacular views of the Aegean Sea.

The beach in Paleochori is a mix of sand and pebbles, with crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming. It’s also home to Sirocco, one of my favorite restaurants in Milos.

The restaurant is set right on the beach and is well-known for its traditional Greek dishes, fresh seafood, and unique cooking methods. Many of the dishes are cooked under the sand by using the area’s geothermal energy, and taste delicious!

However, thanks to its secluded location, Paleochori is not the best option for exploring other areas of the island as it’s quite far from popular sites like Sarakiniko or Pollonia. It’s also not easily accessible by public transport, so having a car or ATV is recommended.

5. Klima

Last but not least, Klima is a charming fishing village located on the northwestern coast of Milos. It’s known for its iconic colorful boat garages, or syrmata fishermen houses that line the shore and add to the village’s unique charm.

Klima offers a true escape from the busy parts of the island, with only a few accommodations available.

But if you’re looking for a unique stay, Klima is certainly one of the best places to stay in Milos. You can rent one of the traditional syrmata houses and experience authentic Greek island living. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget!

On the other hand, this experience comes with a higher price tag so it’s not the most budget-friendly option. Also, due to its remote location and limited accommodation options, it’s not the best choice for those wanting to explore other areas of Milos.
